Hope on the Horizon

After submitting an application to Marquette University in the morning yesterday, I got phone call in the evening asking for an interview.  So it looks like I will be off to Milwaukee at the end of the month to wow the Physics department there and get myself a job. I'm pretty excited. Now back to my family vacation.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Another year older. I'm not terribly concerned about being older, I'm only 24 after all. I have my whole future ahead of me. It would be nice to feel like I am getting closer to starting that future. But patience, patience, patience.

My birthday was spent primarily by myself as I was dog sitting the pups. I treated myself to a $5 movie (Horrible Bosses). And the day was capped off by Mexican food at El Sombrero with the family. Pretty low key- but thinking doing something more active with friends when I return from Canada. We'll see.

Small Steps to a Healthier Me

Okay, here it is. Time to make some serious life decisions to improving my health. It's time to make better food choices and get off my lazy ass.

Here's the plan:

Food: Eat portion sizes and bring in as many fruits and veggies as possible. Also try to supplement the crap food (noodles and the like) with things like Benefiber. Also I will be adding a multivitamin and Vitamin B complex. I intend to try recipes that are healthier in nature- but this will prove to be a bit of a challenge since my brother will probably be sharing meals with me and he is a really picky eater. And like usual, I need to drink more water (and making sure I have at least one cup of tea a day) and cut out caloric soda. I will also try to only eat when hungry and not eat 3 hours before sleeping. Almost forgot- I want to try and eat my meals at the kitchen table. Gonna have to start with one meal at the table and then work up to all three.

Exercise: I got to move it, move it. My first goal is to complete a 10 week training program for a 5k. I don't intend to actually run an official 5k, just figured it was a good way to have a running routine. There is a time length and a final goal. I think right now I will even make a goal for my 5k run: 40 minutes. That will be aiming for a 13 minute mile- which would be an improvement on my high school times. I'd like to throw out that I hate running. But I think it will be okay. It isn't about the running it is about the sweating and moving.

If I ever get a job I also want to join a gym. If I get a job in the next 10 weeks (I frakking hope so!), then I will blend my 5k training with some fitness classes like Zumba or yoga. The way I see it the 5k training gets me exercising 3 times a week to start up to 5 days a week. I eventually want to be doing a legit workout 5 times a week.

And add to this my park adventures. I want to go experience the parks of Washington (specifically ones with trails) have to offer will a goal of hiking up Green Mountain will ease. Which after a quick google search reveals to be an 5 mile hike with an elevation change of 1000 feet.

Accountability: This will all be for not is I don't find a means to make myself accountable. So I have started a fitness/food log on FITDAY.com as well as keeping track on a piece of paper in the form of a calendar. I'm also trying to see if I can rope anyone else into this little adventure.

Goals: Healthier living is the primary goal. I also want to lose about 60 pounds.

So there it is. I hope it works out!!

The Clouds

I feel like my head is up in the clouds and not in a good way. I can't see anything clearly right now. My motivation has been trampled on and I can't see an end in sight.

I really didn't anticipate this. I was confident that I would get a 'shit' job for the summer before finding a career for the fall. Thanks left field, I appreciate the challenge (well not yet I don't, I'm sure I will in a year or two when it is actually something to be grateful for). I get really nervous looking at my moneys and the lack of employment.

All I have been doing in the last few weeks is look for jobs, apply to jobs and watch several different tv shows. It is really a depressing lifestyle. I try to go out to a park or something a couple times a week to have something to look forward to.

Chin up, just keep swimming, it'll all work out in the end- hopefully.

Well it seems that I'll be heading up to Canada at the end of this week to visit family. I haven't done that for quite some time now. It will be really great to meet a couple first cousins once removed and to see aunt, uncles, cousins and of course my grandmother. It will also be nice to have some quality time with my mom (we are the only ones taking the trip).

It will be nice to take a break from this serious job hunting thing and relax a little. And speaking of....

Also to come will be a few changes I want to make in life.
